What’s wrong with UBI?1) U stands for Universal
The selling point, is that this replaces all other benefits.
It's unlikely that the ubi will cover all types of beneficiaries, given the vast difference in beneficiaries needs. (Different sized families, special needs etc etc). So it wont be universal. The number of exceptions will grow and grow just as the benefits system itself has grown and grown.
If it doesn't replace all other benefits, then where are these so called efficiencies? Where is the universality?
People are not equal, everyone has different circumstances.
Working on a one size fits all basis disregards the individual.
2) UBI tries to divorce someones economic benefits from their remuneration. I am not sure where such a system has worked.
An an example wont things just level out again?
I am an employer. I pay my employee $1,000 a month, the employee starts to get ubi of $300 a month, so I reduce their pay to $700 a month to offset the extra $300 in taxes my business will pay.
I may have missed something here in terms of application, but the benefits off ubi may be offset by re-leveling of wages.
One more final thought. Does paying people the same no matter what their economic value, have any parallel to paying the same for any item regardless of its economic value?
i.e a bag of chips costs a dollar and a house costs a dollar, and everything costs a dollar. Can that economic system ever make sense?
3) Why is the focus on taking from one person and give to others rather helping people to be more economically productive?
