Protectionism

Bad for economy if you are protecting one part from the elsewhere, it makes that part flabby and inefficient and the population end up paying more.

A new for of protectionism is claiming that overseas workers are maltreated or working in "sweatshops". This is claimed whether true or not, or whether the conditions while not ideal are better than the workers would achieve elsewhere. The consequence is banning the imports and putting these workers out of a job, thus worsening their position.
